On 24 March, Hue University of Sciences solemnly celebrated the 60th Anniversary of Establishment and Development (1957 – 2017) and honourly received the Second Class Labor Medal.
Attending the ceremony, there were Madame. Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh- a member of the Party Central Committee , Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; Mr. Chu Van Yem – Vice Head of the President’s Office; Madame Nguyen Thi Kim Phung – Head of Undergraduate Education Department, Ministry of Training and Education; Mr. Le Truong Luu, Chairman of Thua Thien Hue Party’s Committee; Mr. Nguyen Van Cao, Chairman of Thua Thien Hue Province People’s Committee; Distinguished guests from Japan, Finland, Laos, Taiwan; leaders of national universities; Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Quang Linh – President of Hue University, leaders of university members of Hue University; Assoc. Prof. Hoang Van Hien – Rector of Hue University of Sciences together with leaders of institutions, representatives of the university’s staff, former lecturers and alumni of Hue University of Sciences.
At the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Hoang Van Hien, Rector reviewed the history of 60 years of establishment and development of Hue University of Sciences (1957 – 2017). Hue University of Sciences (HUSC) has obtained the outstanding developments in all fields. At present, Hue University of Sciences has 439 members, among them there are 311 lecturers, 46 Professors and Associate Professors, 117 Doctors, 200 Master holders, 44 senior lecturers, more than 05 senior officers and librarians. The rate of faculties with master's degree or above is 96%. HUSC has 15 faculties, 07 administrative offices, 01 center for library and information, 05 research centers and and 01 research institute.
Regarding the undergraduate education, the credit system is applied for 24 full time disciplines. In the academic year 2016-2017, there are about 8000 undergraduate and graduate students. From 1976 to 2015, HUSC had trained 42,420 students, 958 gifted students. At the postgraduate level, HUSC is providing 26 master's courses and 17 doctoral courses with 550 master students and 153 PhD students. From 1993 up to now, HUSC has trained more than 3000 master students and Ph.D students. HUSC presently has 9 big buildings, 120 classrooms, lecture halls, laboratories, studios, museum; the administrative areas, garage, etc, creating the clean and beautiful environment. By the beginning of 2017, more than 2,000 projects at all levels have been implemented. HUSC also publishes the Journal with the National Science and Technology Standard (ISSN), periodically 4 volumes per year (1 volume includes 2 issues) and the nationwide VJOL online magazine system is conducted. In particular, HUSC is forming strong interdisciplinary research groups such as Chemistry - Biology - Environment, Physics - Biotechnology - Aquaculture, History - Literature - Geography - Geology - Architecture ...Up to the beginning of 2017, HUSC is cooperating with 40 universities, institutes and research centers, international organizations in Asia, Europe, America and Oceania in various forms such as: exchanging experts, training young lecturers and students; equiping facilities, supporting finance and community livelihood support, implementing many scientific and technological projects and academic information exchange.

In the process of building and development, with the efforts of many generations of staff and students, HUSC has been trusted by the society, the Communist Party, the State and the Government; the socio-political organizations at all levels have highly appreciated and offered many noble awards such as the Third Class Labor Medal (in 1983), the Second Class Labor Medal (in 1991), the First Class Labor Medal (in 1996); the Third-Class Independence Order (in 2001), the Second-Class Independence Order (in 2011), the Second-Class Labor Medal in (2017 – the 2nd time); HUSC continuously receives the certificates of merit from the Prime Minister and the Minister of Education and Training, People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province and other provinces, Central Highlands Steering Committee, General Confederation of Labor of Vietnam, Central Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union ...
In order to meet the high demands of the country’s innovations aiming at developing the university, the rector calls for all of the staff members to improve the solidarity and unity in the whole Party, to continue the political strength, to build the moral ethics, good professional skills, to concentrate all resources to improve the quality of training, scientific research and to enhance the staff's life. The tasks of HUSC are also step by step to develop the university into a research-oriented university, to early become a center for training, scientific research and multi-disciplinary and multi-field transformation of technology, to integrate with advanced universities in the region and the world, contributing to the innovation, education and training of the country.

In this event, Hue University of Sciences also honorly received “the Emulation Flag for the outstanding achievements in scientific research and technology” from the Ministry of Training and Education and “the Emulation Flag for the Excellent Unit in 2015 and 2016” from the chairman of Thua Thien Hue Province People’s Committee and the certificates of merit from the chairmans of People’s Committee of provinces, cities for the important contributions in education, training human resources, well conducting the research for the socio-economic development in the locality.
In addition, Madame Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh – Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam offered scholarships for 30 poor students who overcame the challenges and achieved the good results in study.
